Garda divisional changes to see Fermoy and Midleton merge

Gardaí are to introduce a new operating model for County Cork, which will see the Fermoy district combined with Midleton to be considered ‘the functional area of the north east of the county’.

Under the new model, the divisions of north Cork and west Cork will now be amalgamated into one: ‘Cork County’. The seven Garda districts of Fermoy, Midleton, Mallow, Bantry, Clonakilty, Bandon, and Macroom will instead by replaced by six ‘functional areas’: the ‘Cork County North East Community Engagement’ area (encompassing Fermoy and Midleton), and two others, for the south-west and the north-west.

The Superintendent for the ‘North East Community Engagement’ area will be based in Midleton.
