A platform for young people to share their ideas, creativity and commitment to addressing global issues, last weekend’s CDYS (Cloyne Diocesan Youth Services) ‘One World Week Project Showcase’, saw members from both Fermoy and Mitchelstown participate, along with several other community groups.
Held on Saturday, November 16th in South Parish Community Centre, Cork city, the showcase celebrated the inspiring projects created by young people within CDYS, aiming to foster global awareness, community engagement, and social change. Reflecting the theme ‘Change is a Journey,’ the event emphasised that creating lasting impact is a continuous process, requiring commitment, growth, and learning along the way.
The showcase highlighted various projects led by local youth groups, focusing on themes such as sustainability, social justice and diversity. Some young people shared insights on how social media and the world around them influence their mental health.
Additionally, the event explored dynamic methods to cultivate critical thinking skills, empowering young people to question, analyse and engage deeply with the world. Finally, the powerful interconnectedness of global communities was highlighted through the lens of the food we share, tracing cultural connections and influences across borders.
Each project reflected the values of One World Week and emphasised the importance of fostering a sense of global citizenship among Ireland’s youth.
Notable attendees included young people, Deputy Lord Mayor Honore Kamegni, and a representative from Cork City Council. The showcase proved an inspiring afternoon, highlighting youth-led initiatives that promote awareness and action for a better world.
