Local focus on Round the Fireside on C103 over next two weeks

In recording for the upcoming ‘Round The Fireside’ show, to be aired on 103FM on Monday, 4th September and September 11th at 10pm, were the Fermoy contingent, l-r: Gerry Feerick (musician), Jimmy Reidy (show host), Oliver McCarthy (musician), Christy Roche (historian), Peggy Reidy, Michael Dunne (guest), Ger Ahern (musician), Michael Jordan (guest), Mary McCarthy (musician), singer Dan Larkin and John O’Mahony (guest).

Round the Fireside with Jimmy Reidy will feature a cohort of local guests and musicians on both Monday, September 4th and Monday, September 11th from 9.50pm on C103FM.

Local songs and stories from the area will be provided over the two nights by Gerry Feerick, Oliver McCarthy, Christy Roche, Peggy Riedy, Michael Dunne, Ger Ahern, Michael Jordan, Mary McCarthy, Dan Larkin and John O’Mahony.

Michael Jordan said the two shows were recorded recently in Freemount. “The music was outstanding; John O’Mahony sang ‘My Home in Fermoy’ at the start of the programme. We had Christy Roche who gave a great talk on the history of Fermoy and I spoke as well about my boxing career.” It was 50 years ago this year that Michael won the Irish Heavyweight Championship in Dublin.

“After wrapping up the recording of the first show, Jimmy pressed on with the second show. “The second night was something similar again: singing, a bit of poetry, Christy Roche spoke and I spoke then about handball and the history of the sport. It turned out very nice in the end.”

So tune in to C103FM over the next two Monday nights!
