Local racquetball players prepare for World Championships

Preparations are underway for six local racquetball players who will be part of the Irish Junior team competing at the Junior World Championships in Minnesota this November.

Thea Coleman, from Mitchelstown will compete in the girls U12 section, while Aoife Beckett, Araglen will be in action in the girls U14 category. Denis Riordan, Araglen is the youngest athlete in the squad and he will compete in the boys U10 tournament.

Keelan O’Gorman Araglen, will take on the best boys in the world in the U12 section, while  Ben Carey and Jack Kearney, both from the Araglin club, will compete in the under 14 age group.

Araglen GAA Club have kindly offered the proceeds of the their lotto this week – the jackpot is €5,900 – to kick-start the fundraising to send five Juniors from the Araglen Racquetball Club to the tournament in the USA.

There will also be lucky dips on the night. All members will be out selling tickets for this draw.

It is a fantastic achievement for the six local representatives and all at The Avondhu wish them every success when they travel to Minnesota in November.
