Signatures were taken this week on the streets of Fermoy from those who want to see action on Fermoy Weir, as local activists Helen White and William Hughes bemoaned the fact that confirmation of funding for the project was still awaited.
Last month, The Avondhu reported that initial discussions have been held with organisations in relation to funding, and that funding for the construction stage of the project has yet to be secured. This week, at Pearse Square, the local activists collected signatures for a petition.
Across Monday and Tuesday, individuals were noted on the weir appearing to be ‘surveying’ the structure.
Speaking with The Avondhu, Helen White noted that while planning is granted, confirmation of funding and any physical works are yet to be seen.
