The late Seanie O’Brien, RIP

Seanie will be sadly missed in Mitchelstown Golf Club where he was due to be incoming captain for 2017. His infectious smile and winning ways gave Seanie the ability to mix with young and old and together with his generosity of spirit and time created a large circle of friends both within and outside the club.

Always willing to put his shoulder to the wheel he was the “go to” person when help or guidance was required. When a request was made the reply was “when do you want it done”. While he loved his golf he put looking after people first on many occasions as a number of our members will testify. He was instrumental in building up the Seanoiri section to what it is today and looked forward to the game of ’45’ after the golf.

His winning ways ensured that there were plenty greenfee spot prizes from other clubs at the Christmas party. His involvement with the South Munster Seniors Opens led to us having three outings generating much needed revenue for the club.

His membership of the Funcheon Valley Golf Society is legendary and he was instrumental in Glanworth GAA Club Golf Classic being such a success. He did not confine all his golf to  within our own shores and there are many holiday groups and clubs in France, Spain and Portugal who enjoyed his company.

Seanie was a great supporter of club teams as a player, caddie or mentor and he was really looking forward to his year as captain and I’m sure the club would have been greatly enriched by the experience. Alas, we will never know why God called him home so soon. To Olive and Dermot, his extended family, relatives and friends we extend our deepest sympathies.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
