Excitement is high in Kildorrery having been adjudged to be the proud winners of the Cork County Council Anti-Litter Challenge. Having come second in the county final in 2010, 2011 and 2012, this year everyone put in a huge effort to achieve first place.

It is a great achievement to make it through to the anti-litter challenge final, so to win required a monumental effort from all those involved, really well done to the extremely dedicated community.

The chairman of the Tidy Towns group Ted Enright, would like thank each and every volunteer who got involved in the rota and to the wider community who were vigilant in keeping a watchful eye for litter and helped when they could.

Winning the anti-litter challenge would not have been possible without the help of the businesses, shops and pubs who gave their full support throughout the competition. The win will no doubt assist Kildorrery when applying for future grants that will benefit the whole community. Kildorrery would like to recognise the efforts of the other finalist, Coolea in South Cork and Drimoleague in West Cork.

FURTHER SUCCESS

There was further success when Kildorrery significantly increased their score in this year’s Tidy Towns competition, going from 279 last year to 285 in this year’s competition. High praise was given throughout the village including the community garden at Oaklawn, which is described as 'superb' and 'easily the best example of such a garden that this adjudicator has yet seen'.

Everyone is invited to join the Tidy Towns group in Sheahan's Hilltop Lounge on this Saturday night (13th) at 9pm where they will be celebrating and raising funds for their next challenges.

There will be the presentation of prizes for the local Tidy Towns competition, music will be provided by The Fogarty Family, and a raffle will be held on the night with numerous prizes.
