A vintage tea and coffee morning and cake sale will be held in the library, Ballyduff Upper on Sunday, September 7th after 11am Mass, with Sightsavers the beneficiaries.

Sightsavers is a international organisation which helps to prevent river blindness and other eye disorders. River blindness is caused by flies that thrive in fast flowing rivers, mostly in underdeveloped countries. The disease robs people of their sight and causes unbearable itching. The good news is that it is completely preventable - one mectizan treatment can protect a person against river blindness for a whole year.

This mectizan treatment has been donated free by pharmaceutical company Merck & Co. (M.S.D.), but has to be distributed across whole communities, many in very remote areas with 120 million people at risk. Sightsavers are also trying to focus on the huge amount of cataracts and trachoma operations needed, especially in many African countries.

Please come along on Sunday, September 7th for a cup of tea and a chat. If anyone would like to donate cakes etc, it would be greatly appreciated. For more details please contact Kay on (086) 3684644 or Celia on (087) 4120837.
