Kildorrery Tidy Towns continue to move forward

Trees were planted in Hillcrest in Kildorrery, as 22 were donated in total from the Irish Tree Centre.

The Kildorrery Tidy Towns group were very pleased at the beginning of the month to accept a variety of mature trees from Peadar Collins in the Irish Tree Centre, a local nursery. The trees are a mix of ironwood, disease-resistant elm, holly, Scotts pine, and magnolia, as well as dawn redwoods, swamp cypress and Bhutan pine, and have been planted in the village park and in both the Hillcrest and Bearna Deara housing estates.

Speaking with The Avondhu, the chair of the group Ted Enright said that the delivery was ‘a great asset’, as was Mr Collins’ contribution in general for not only donating the trees, but also pruning the trees in Oaklawn and the village park, with the help of Brendan Collins and Mattie Noonan.

Conor Maguire, another Tidy Towns compatriot and speaking to The Avondhu alongside Ted, said that Peadar had helped them secure a better ranking in the annual competition. The carbon sequestration achieved in the last 20 years, with over 500 trees planted in the village and its vicinity, is an accomplishment ‘exceeding other villages by a country mile’.
