Kilbehenny Tidy Towns group got off to a good start on Good Friday last as they participated in a massive clean up of their local community as part of the (TLC) Team Limerick Clean-up event.

Good Friday is a day for making sacrifices so the local people and organisations played their part in making sure Kilbehenny village and surrounds was litter free by carrying out a litter pick from the Mitchelstown roundabout to the Tipperary bounds.

There was great excitement during the course of the day when Limerick's senior hurling manager T J Ryan, paid a visit to the village to meet all of the volunteers. All participants who took part in the clean up re-grouped afterwards for a well-deserved cup of tea and chat in the community centre in recognition of all the hard work.

Children who took part got a memento so as to re-enforce awareness of our environment and the need to respect it. A commemorative TLC book featuring the names of every volunteer in the county will be produced, which will act as an historic archive detailing the first ever Limerick Clean-up and hopefully, the start of many more to come. The TLC campaign was sponsored by the J P McManus Benevolent Fund and was held in partnership with Mr Binman.

With the launch of An Taisce National Spring Clean 2015 (April 1st – 30th), the Kilbehenny Tidy Town's group are urging people to get involved in cleaning up the village so as to ensure the area shines for the upcoming Tidy Towns and Limerick in Bloom awards thus making their community a better place to live, work and visit.
