Kathleen reaches the last stop on Local Link

For the past 10 years, Kathleen Finn’s Local Link bus was much more than a way of simply getting from one place to the next. For many passengers travelling on bus number 529 from Mitchelstown to Fermoy and everywhere in between, it was a place of chat, music, laughter and familiar faces. Now, after a decade on the Local Link route and 25 years in the profession, Kathleen has taken her final turn behind the wheel.

Turning 70 last July, Kathleen said retiring was no easy decision. Health issues following a car accident last October, along with caring responsibilities for a member of her family, meant the time had come to take the step back. Still, leaving the route behind was emotional.

“I loved meeting the people, absolutely loved it. I knew everything about everyone,” she said. “It was really hard leaving.”
