Though MacCurtain Street and the overall town of Fermoy has never been quieter according to one local businessman, there are signs that the street and the town itself are starting to improve as more and more businesses are opening. 

With a new fashion boutique open in the former fish market building, a new pharmacy (Lyons O’Reilly Pharmacy) set to open next month and the understanding that the post office will be relocating to the street soon, reports of MacCurtain Street’s death may be premature.

That said, Neil O’Donnell, who has operated a nursery and decor business on the street for many years, said he had never seen MacCurtain Street or Fermoy ‘as bad as it is at the moment’.

“It’s terrible,” he told The Avondhu: “Talking to our few reps they’d be saying things are getting very quiet around here. I’d say ‘we’d have to agree with you that it’s in a bad state, but this is across the country as well, that things are bad’.
