An 11-year-old boxing fan from Glanmire was lucky enough to witness her sporting role model, Katie Taylor, at her final hurrah in Croke Park last Saturday, after winning tickets with her mum through a Lidl Plus competition.
Ciara O’Donovan, from Dunkettle, attended with her mother Florence, a midwife manager, to see the Bray native in action against Flora Pili; Taylor’s boxing performances first encouraged the youngster to take up the sport.
Recalling her daughter’s reaction to the news of winning the competition, Florence told The Avondhu, “I can’t describe it…. she was very excited, very excited; it was pure joy, I guess.”
