A number of houses in Ballyduff were damaged during a lightning strike on Sunday afternoon.

A line of houses in the Glencairn area were affected when a series of lightning strikes hit around 5.30pm, causing damage to the exterior of houses and other property.

The phone sockets in a number of houses were blown out of the walls, while at least one house had its chimney damaged and will require new wiring following the incident.

It is understood that trees were also damaged by the strikes as well as electric fences.

Local resident John Barry said his house was among those affected. “There were about three strikes of lightning, it seemed to move along in a line.”
