It is hoped that some 70 Ukrainians may be accommodated in Fermoy town following completion of Phase 1 of works to a prominent local building.
As the Department of Sport has recently confirmed that it has been contacting sporting bodies to see if there are any sporting venues available to accommodate Ukrainian refugees, attention has been turned to the situation locally.
In Fermoy town, works are continuing to restore the former Presentation Convent building, formerly known as St Joseph’s Convent School. It is understood that the building is most likely to be used to accommodate refugees from Ukraine once completed.
Speaking with The Avondhu, Daniel Finnegan of Better Built Homes Ltd, the company working to restore the building, said that individuals may be accommodated on-site by the end of September.
