Pyschiatrist and academic, Dr Patricia Casey was back on home ground last Thursday night when she presented a seminar on mental health issues in Ballynoe Community Hall.
Addressing a capacity crowd, Dr Casey said that mental health issues respected no boundaries and that everyone at some stage in their lives would face personal trauma.
Conceding that the topic of mental health was now being dealt with more openly, Dr Casey said Ireland as a society had a long way to go in providing comprehensive services to those affected by mental illness.
She went on to speak about the important of early intervention when it came to children with learning difficulties.
