It's a case of 'not being able to see the wood for the trees' at present in Fermoy with the on-going flood protection works. Everywhere you look there are hoardings, heavy machinery and construction crews. But, behind the obvious benefit of the €32M project, i.e. flood alleviation, when the project is finally completed in April next year, Fermoy is going to be enhanced by the extra features installed as part of the work.

New boardwalks along by the river will allow people to stroll, sit, view and enjoy the beautiful Blackwater. Quality stone walls are being erected which will also improve the aesthetics of the area and a brand new state-of-the-art toilet block is being installed on Ashe Quay.

Apart from those enhancement works there is the very important matter of the completion of works allowing new development, long stagnant, to begin again. Progress is expected on developments like those planned by the Shipton Group for the old mart site and others who have waited until the threat of flooding of sites near the river has been alleviated to further their plans.
