Hayden Supple of Fermoy Handball Club and Cork made the long journey to Kingscourt, Co Cavan for his All-Ireland handball final U14 singles.
Hayden had previously beaten his opponent Gary McAleer from Co Tyrone last year in the All-Ireland semi-final and in the nationals so he felt very confident going into this year’s final.
This was a final where two of the best juveniles at U14 in the country met.
Hayden got off to a great start in the first game and led 14-8. This is when his opponent took a time out which is meant to be 30 seconds but lasted about 3 minutes.
Tactics came into play and this seemed to put Hayden off his game. His opponent came back to win 15-14.
In the second game, Hayden found it hard to overcome the loss of the first game and McAleer went on to win the second game 15-8.
It was a fantastic achievement for Hayden to reach an All-Ireland final at U14 singles for the second year in a row and there is no doubt that he will learn from his recent experience and be back in plenty more All-Ireland finals.
Well done Hayden on your silver medal!
