The Green Flag gospel continues to be spread in our national schools, with Curraghagalla being the latest to secure this coveted symbol of environmental awareness.

The ceremony took place on Monday morning last with parents and school supporters on hand to see the flag being run up the recently installed flag pole. The school's eldest pupil, Kevin Quane and its most youthful recruit, Niall Casey were joined by members of the Green Schools' committee, principal Ann O'Sullivan, S.N.A. Marie Keane and Garda Denis Motherway for the official raising.

A specially composed rap song was performed and a cake prepared by sixth class student, Michaela O'Brien was presented to the principal, who in turn shared it among guests.

Curraghagalla N.S. has certainly bought in to the ethos behind the Green Flag and thanks to the efforts of teachers and pupils, the amount of waste that would otherwise go to landfill, has been greatly reduced. School staff have also become extra vigilant when it comes to litter and not surprisingly, the environs of the school look exceptionally neat and tidy.
