Glanworth parents forced to arrange private school transport as system ‘overloaded’

In Glanworth, parents awaiting concessionary school transport tickets have once again had to take matters into their own hands by organising a private bus to ensure their children get to school, left out of pocket in the process.

Each year, across The Avondhu circulation area, parents battle for concessionary tickets to secure a seat on a school bus for their children.

This year, however, sees the issue compounded as fees were waived and an influx of applications resulted – even students deemed ‘eligible’ for tickets remain without school transport. One local councillor has stated that ‘families are distraught’ as a result of the stress.

The Avondhu spoke with parents in Glanworth and Clondulane and locally, the matter is understood to extend to another 20 students in the Glenville area, as well as many more in Bartlemy, Ballynoe, Conna, Tallow, Ballyduff, Villierstown and surrounds.
