Glanworth journalist Donal O’Keeffe was announced this week as a shortlisted contender for the Irish Red Cross Humanitarian Awards 2021.
He has been nominated for Journalism Excellence, and sits alongside fellow journalists Maria Delaney, Michelle Hennessy, with a special mention of RTÉ’s Katie Hannon.
The awards recognise those who have had a humanitarian impact on the lives of others through volunteering, storytelling, skill sharing or fundraising. The awards are designed to highlight the efforts of those who have given a voice to humanitarian issue.
Mr O’Keeffe is a freelance journalist since 2014, working for publications such as The Examiner, thejournal.ie and as a columnist for The Avondhu.
The Glanworth man spoke to The Avondhu about his nomination, and his absolute delight and disbelief at the recognition.
“I assume there’s been some terrible misunderstanding! To be in such company, I’m deeply honoured and humbled. I’m in elevated company indeed!”
