It was confirmed at this week’s public Joint Policing Committee meeting that Mitchelstown will be getting a new Garda sergeant, as soon as the new list of available staff is made available, likely in the next three months.

Chief Superintendent Con Cadogan made the announcement in response to a motion raised by Cllr Frank O’Flynn, on the issue of vacancies for Garda sergeants and Garda visibility in towns like Mitchelstown.

Acknowledging that the station in the town was seeing increased activity, Chief Superintendent Cadogan was looking at possible options to make the station more efficient.

“It’s an ongoing competition at the moment. There has been a retirement at Mitchelstown Garda Station, and once the new list comes out, Mitchelstown will be getting a new sergeant.”
