Santa letters coming from homes all over the country often have a request for a pet and to make sure that people care for their pets properly, the Girl Guides had a visit from a vet last week in Mitchelstown.

Deirdre McGrath of Southview Vets in Clonmel, who is also a former guide herself, spoke to the guides and their leaders about caring for pets, how to feed them and how best to meet their needs.

She stressed that having a pet is a big commitment and some of the girl guides brought along their own pets on the night to the town hall, so that they could meet each other's pets and talk about different things they had come across.
