With a growing number of burglaries in the area in recent weeks, Fermoy Garda Station has called on the public to co-operate in aiding their efforts to track those culpable for thefts.

With the evenings becoming brighter, the clocks are going forward an hour this weekend, more and more people will be out walking later at night, often in secluded, forestry areas.

As such, three thefts from vehicles alone were reported to Fermoy gardaí this week. On Thursday, March 19, a car was broken into in Bartlemy with a number of items taken.

A similar incident occurred in Ballyclough, on this occasion a light-coloured Volkswagen Passat was identified and Gardaí were made aware.

A further theft occurred on Sunday, March 22, when a car parked at Glanworth Castle was broken and entered.

“As we had vigilant people identify the car in question, that allowed us to search the area for that car,” a spokesperson for Fermoy Garda Station said.

“We would ask people, when they are parking their cars in the area, to make sure the cars are locked first and foremost, any valuables are out of the way, to take items with you if possible, but if not hidden in a place that can’t be seen.

“Otherwise you’re creating an opportunity if high value goods are on show to be taken by these people,” they said.

Fermoy Garda Station called on the public to co-operate on incidents, if they see any suspicious activity to contact then immediately.

“We have text alert system, if people see cars acting suspiciously in the area, they can contact us and we’ll circulate it on the text alert and call out to see it as well.

“We do need the co-operation of the local public as well, if they see things happening they should let us know so we can follow it up.”
