The long running saga of a proposed gaming arcade in Mitchelstown came to an end late last week when a court ruled that gambling institutions were banned in the town. 

The judgement came after many years of debate and protest against the facility set to be placed in a building on Lower Cork Street. 

It had previously been refused in the District Court, but Cork County Council and the proposed operators of the facility Perks, continued to a hearing in the Circuit Court. 

A judgement by Judge Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin in Mallow on Friday ruled that the gaming arcade was not allowed in the Mitchelstown area.
