Self styled as Ireland’s most popular traditional Irish ballad band with a lively rock sensibility, Rathcormac’s Gaelic Brew launched their debut album, ‘Away From Home’ in the Old Oak, Cork on Friday, August 22nd last.

The local four piece, made up of Damien Coughlan, Evin O’Riordan, Scott Murphy and Frank Maguire, spent eight months working on the album, which is sure to strike a chord with music lovers across various different genres.

The album features three original songs, including the title track written by Damien Coughlan, who explained to The Avondhu that the album process was new to the band.

“It’s a side of the industry that we wouldn’t really be used to - it’s our debut album, it was a new road and a new avenue for us to explore, but it all went very well and in the end, we’ve got a good product out of it.

“We went to the recording studio just to get our music done on something we could produce for our fans,” he said.

Recorded on site at ClayCastle Studio in Youghal, the album has already been taken on by iTunes and Amazon, and is stocked at numerous HMV stores around the country.

The other original songs on the album are ‘Whiskey Chasers’ and ‘The Drink Is Catching Up With Me’, songs sure to resonate with fans and new listeners alike! The album cover is even adorned with a copy of The Avondhu - nice one lads!

BUSY TOURING

As well as the new album, Gaelic Brew have been busy touring over the last few months, and are currently in the middle of a hectic period of gigging right across Munster.

“Seeing as the four piece is relatively new, we’re still making a stamp on what we’re trying to do and what way we’re trying to go.

“We’re looking at doing a lot more festivals and even this Saturday, we’re doing the Red Head Convention in Crosshaven; Five Bands & A Pig above in Murty Browne’s in Clare was another festival that we did, so we’re starting to get into those type of events more,” added Damien.

A local band well worth checking out - if you haven’t already - their debut album is well worth listening to. Make sure to check it out.
