Ten years after sitting the applied version of the Leaving Certificate at St Fanahan’s College in Mitchelstown, 27 year-old Vincent O’Brien returned to education to complete the Leaving Cert proper.

Vincent told The Avondhu that he has a new-found confidence after achieving a decade-long goal and he has already landed a new job at Aldi’s distribution centre in Mitchelstown, a position secured just ten days after receiving his results.

“I really wanted to prove to myself that I had the ability to do it. Ten years ago my teachers didn’t have faith in me to do the proper Leaving Cert,” said Vincent.

He then found it difficult to get a job because of a hearing disability, so he decided to return to education to better himself.
