The Cork based Trad-Fusion band Torcán, headed by Jason Turk from Knockanore, were proud to be chosen to perform earlier this month at the Cork Opera House in the show ‘Sing Out Loud’.
It is the first time this show has been run in Cork and the aim is to give primary school children the chance to perform in a major concert venue alongside professional musicians.
Fifty schools from Cork County took part during the course of the week of shows and their singing was interspersed each night with dancing percussion and trad music.
Torcán played with renowned Irish dancer Margaret McCarthy and their lively performances were greeted with spirited enthusiasm. It was great to see all 900 audience and students clapping along with the music!
Both Torcan and Margaret McCarthy, as separate entities, have performed locally in The Village Arts Centre and both are overdue a return visit. Watch this space!
