Fundraising is underway for a family in Gaza, who have been displaced many times over the past number of months and are currently in Rafah. Mahmoud Shaldan and his wife Alba, who now live in Cork, are trying to raise sufficient funds to get his sister-in-law, Ola and her children, to Cairo where they can get the care they need.

Hoping to raise €10,000, the Fermoy Palestine Solidarity Campaign group have committed to helping him raise the outstanding €3,000 needed. With strong ties to the county and to Fermoy, Mahmoud began working with Cork County Council in 2002.

“In 2015, I joined the economic development directorate which was involved in the development of the Faber Castell business park. As the engineer based in County Hall, part of my responsibility is to oversee all maintenance needs and was involved in problem-solving related to the buildings at Faber Castell,” Mahmoud said.
