From Ballyhooly to South Africa to make a difference

Liam Dineen, who will be heading to South Africa in November.

Next November, Ballyhooly man Liam Dineen will be part of a large group of Irish volunteers travelling to South Africa to work for the Mellon Educate Building Blitz for 2025. Hell be joining an incredible team of volunteers on a life-changing mission to build better futures.

By all accounts the volunteers can expect hard work, plenty of laughter, and the unforgettable experience of making a real difference in the lives of children and communities. Before he sets off however, Liam will have to raise the sum of 5,000 – this will cover all his costs and also make a substantial contribution to the Mellon Building Fund.

In November, Liam will be part of a group doing major works at two schools at Lwandle township in the town of Strand, in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. To kickstart his fundraising campaign Liam is organising a walk from Barnane in Fermoy to Ballyhooly on Saturday week, August 16th. The plan is to get 50 walkers who will commit to raising 100 each. It will be a leisurely walk and at journey’s end refreshments will be available in Ballyhooly.

The walk will start at 12 noon on the quayside in Fermoy beyond the former Grand Hotel. There will be a number of drop off points on the route with transport back to Ballyhooly if needed for those who wish to walk just some of the trek. For more details contact Liam at liamdineen@gmail.com
