During her days in Loreto Secondary School in Fermoy, studying and further education were never high on Darina’s priority list.
She had two ideas, one was that she might set up her own bus company and the other was farming, but studying or doing her homework wasn’t really one of them.
22 year old farmer Darina Gowen is having the time of her life on large scale dairy farm in New Zealand where she is currently on placement as part of her Dairy Herd Management course which she is completing in Clonakilty Agricultural College.
The daily routine on the New Zealand farm which has 960 cows is a big change from her own yard at home in Ballyhooly where she looks after 130 Holstein cows with her father.
