Bishop Murphy Memorial School in Fermoy embraced Friendship Week with open arms and great enthusiasm, as pupils and staff made an effort to be extra kind to one another.

One of the main features of the week at Bishop Murphy’s was the ‘Random Acts of Kindness Board’, located in the main foyer of the school.

The board provided a platform upon which the school community could celebrate the random acts of kindness that they had received during the week.

The idea was that every random act of kindness received would be written on a post-it and displayed on the board.

School Principal James O’Donoghue commented: “Needless to say, space is at a premium by this week as acts of kindness are being given and received at an exponential rate!”

The classes are participating in activities relating to friendship, such as Mix It Up Monday, an acrostic poetry competition, an anti bullying poster competition, school assembly, etiquette, school mass and a merit awards at the end of the week to recognise those that made a special effort during the week.

Senior pupils were partnered with those in the junior classes as part of a Buddy System initiative.

“The boys have built a great rapport with one another and have participated in many activities during the week. All classes learned the Bruno Mars Song ‘Count on me’ which acted as theme tune for the week,” added Mr O’Donoghue.
