The death has occurred of Fermoy-native and former Scouting Ireland’s Chief Scout, Michael John Shinnick.
The 61-year-old passed away peacefully in Marymount University Hospital and Hospice in Cork on Sunday, April 10th just after 11pm, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Members of the Fermoy Scout Group were among those who formed a guard of honour for Mr Shinnick at his funeral in Glanworth on Wednesday.
In a recent message posted on the Scouting Ireland website, Mr Shinnick confirmed that he had been diagnosed with cancer 18 months ago and was informed that the illness was terminal. Mr Shinnick grew up in Clancy Street in Fermoy, where he attended school with the Presentation Nuns …
