First league game of the season for St Catherines girls

This week past, saw the first league game of the season played on Wednesday night last when
St Catherines met Barryroe at home.

This week saw the first league game of the season played on Wednesday night last.

St Catherines met Barryroe at home. The night where the weather was bitterly cold and the pitch conditions were hard underfoot due to the cold dry weather of the last few weeks.

Such conditions did not deter the St Catherines ladies from going out with their usual energy and enthusiasm. From the throw in St Catherines were showing that they meant business with a very quick point from Rachel O'Callaghan this was followed by points from Finola Neville and Evelyn Ronayne.

Barryroe followed suit with scoring three points making the sides level. At fifteen minutes into the game, Barryroe scored a goal leaving the Saints playing catch up for the first time. The girls responded with some great points from Finola Neville Michelle Tobin Rachel O Callaghan and Catherine Fitzgerald.

Half-time score St Catherines 0-9 to Barryroe 1-6

Second half got off to a good start with another point from Finola Neville Barryroe were all the time challenging and trying to break through St Catherines defence this was proving to be hard as thanks to hard work from Yvonne O’Neill, Fiona Cotter, Orna Neville, Annette Fitzgerald and Sandra Noonan who successfully stopped Barryroe from scoring any more goals and only 5points.

Meanwhile St Catherines forwards were doing what they do best with Finola Neville scoring a further 4 points and Michelle Tobin 4pts and 1pt from Rachel O’Callaghan making the saints the victors on the night Final score St Catherines 0-19 Barryroe 1-11

In other news we would like to congratulate 3 of our U14 who were successful in achieving a place on the Cork primary team well done to Laura Hayes, Caoimhe Galvin and Megan Draper.

Our U12 team had the honour of playing in Croke Park last weekend.

We would like to congratulate Faith Noonan from our senior team on her recent engagement.
