This year’s Festival of the Galtees was showered with sunshine as crowds turned out for the ever popular shows and competitions.
For the baby show, Kyle O’Regan won the 0-6 months category, in the 6-12 month category, Chulainn Gahs came first, Jean Walsh came second and Harry O’Brien came third, Daryl Murphy won the 1-2 year category and Danny Murphy claimed the prize for the 2-3 year olds.
There were a lot of entries for the popular dog show which many people look forward to and Con Rice took the prize for the overall winner with the champion dog. The winner in the small dog category was Amy Delaney, with Sheila Lewis second and Mairead Baugh in third place.
In the large dog section, Con Rice came first, James Connolly came second and Donal Shanahan came third. Ciara Byrne’s dog won ‘the dog I’d like to take home’, while Colin O’Dwyer’s dog was ‘best behaved’ and in the same category, Con Rice came second, Mairead Baugh came third and Ciara Byrne came fourth.
First prize for the best dressed doll went to Jessica Creed, second prize to Molly Keating and third prize to Rebecca Walsh. For the small dolls, Molly Keating took first prize, Daniel Creed took second prize and Cloe Courtney claimed third prize.
The prizes for original dolls went to John White (first place) and Jack Keating (second place) while in ‘the doll I’d like to take home’ section, Cloe Courtney came first with Molly Keating second. Meanwhile, in the teddy bear competition, Rebecca Walsh came first, Melissa Rice came second and Christina Donegan came third.
The best dressed lady was Margaret Fahy of Glanworth and the prize, sponsored by Reidy’s SuperValu, was presented by manager, Jason O’Connor.
Sheila Donegan won the first prize of €200 in the super draw, Sal Mulcahy won €150, Joan O’Connor won €100 and Mike O’Donovan won €50.
The Festival of the Galtees committee would like to thank everyone who supported the festival as they look forward to next year’s event. They would also like to thank everyone who baked for the monster cake sale, Alan Reidy and his staff, members of Special Friends, the committee members themselves, Ber Finn of Kilshanna and everyone who contributed to make the festival a success.
The committee would also like to extend a special thank you to the Mitchelstown Credit Union for their kind sponsorship for the various events; to all the judges who gave up their time and a thank you to the bands who provided the entertainment – the Thomas Kent Pipe Band Fermoy, Liam Lynch Pipe Band and the James Fitzgerald Memorial Brass Band.
