Fermoy woman Jacqui Creed was one of the 24 members of John Healy's family who travelled to Dublin on Saturday last to see him take part in the popular 'Winning Streak' programme on RTE.
John, who lives in Carrigtwohill, is Jacqui's dad. It was she who bought him the lucky scratch card that led to his appearance on the show. There was no real reason why she gave it to him except that she is a good daughter, he proudly told the show's presenters! John told them he thought himself to be a lucky person and he didn't bother to bring along any mascots or lucky charms.
GAA MAD
John's wife Maura, and Jacqui's brother and sister Niall and Amelia, all travelled and nine of his ten grandchildren were also at the show. John is self-employed and works in car sales, he told presenters. He also revealed that the GAA is his main interest. It's an interest shared by Jacqui and her husband Bosco, who are stalwarts of Fermoy Juvenile GAA. In fact Bosco and their son, Adam were unable to attend the show as they had to attend the presentation of Juvenile GAA trophies in the town on Saturday evening. Adam numbered among the prizewinners.
Meanwhile, up in Dublin John's luck held on the night as he first won a holiday to Turkey valued at €5,000 and went on the spin the wheel. The value of his overall winnings was €57,000. "He was delighted, he was in his element," Jacqui told The Avondhu.
John is planning to treat his grandchildren out of his winnings.
