Tasty treats being whipped up in St Fanahan’s College, Mitchelstown

The students from St Fanahan's College in Mitchelstown recently displayed their creative talents, with the sugarcraft competition proving a huge success.

There is a long history of creative arts in St Fanahan’s College, Mitchelstown, but creativity comes in many forms and just before Christmas, the students proved how much they can excel in the art of sugarcraft.

For the past couple of years, the school has honed in on the students’ talents for cake decoration and every year, the results have been more and more impressive, with 2013 being no exception.

In 2013, 63 students, both male and female, took part in the competition where they worked through lunch for many weeks to create their Christmas masterpieces. A huge number of first year students also took part, as they decorated plum puddings.

Once again, the students owed a great debt to Ms. O’Keeffe who gave up many of her lunchtimes to allow them to work on their cakes. Her practical advice and experience was warmly welcomed by all those involved and Ms. O’Keeffe was delighted with the results.

“Some of the cakes produced here were of an extremely high standard and it was brilliant to get so many students involved in it. It really captured their imaginations,” she told The Avondhu.

She congratulated all of the students who worked so hard on their cakes and were able to bring home a truly magical gift for their families at Christmas. Congratulations were extended also to the winners, Niamh Curtain, Chloe Connolly, Sinead Casey, Miriam Coughlan and Clara King.
