There was a sigh of relief for the people of Fermoy as the long awaited resurfacing works got under way on the main street in the town. €450,000 was allocated by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII)  back in February but news that the monies were put on hold and were to be spent on other projects countrywide, brought a furious reaction from traders, shoppers and local councillors alike.

This was one area where everyone was in agreement that pressure should be brought to bear to ensure this money would be spent for the purpose for which it was allocated.

Subsequent lobbying brought a positive result. Much to the relief of the business fraternity and the general public, the works are being carried out between 7pm and 7am, something which had been lobbied for from the outset.
