Cork county and east Cork, in particular, has become a focal point for solar farm activity. Concerned by the scale, extent and concentration of these industrial sized operations, local councillors, Peter O’Donoghue (Bartlemy) and William O’Leary (Rathcormac), organised a public meeting in Fermoy Community Youth Centre on Wednesday, 2nd September.
Over 100 people attended what participants described as a constructive and informative gathering. One attendee, who didn’t want to be identified, praised the two councillors involved.
“Fair play to William and Peter for getting a debate going on this. Personally, I’ve an open mind on solar farms, which, at face value, is clean energy. From what I can see, it’s Government policy to get these things (solar farms) up and running and given the money involved, they’ll be very hard to stop,” the individual told The Avondhu.
