“It’d be so much easier for people to go in there” was the view of Councillor Olive Corcoran, who tabled a motion calling for new signage to be erected at the various entrances to Fermoy town.

Signs should be erected at the entrances to Fermoy informing people of the location and capacity of the town’s car parks, new mayor Olive Corcoran believes. She tabled a motion for the July meeting of the Town Council last week calling for them.

Saying she’s aware there are the big blue signs already, she believes ones are needed specifically with the name, location and capacity of parking areas such as the car park at the mart. “It’d be so much easier for people to go in there if they knew of it in advance,” she explained.

Cllr. Noel Barnes said they’d met the NRA at the time the controversial new ‘build outs’ were constructed in the town and were promised they would get such signage.

Cllr. Colette Dolan-Moore supported her colleague. While the mayor also had the support of Cllr. Tadhg O’Donovan he advised that, as they were being told it was outside their jurisdiction and is a matter for the county council, an amendment was needed to the motion calling on Cork County Council to request that the NRA do the work. The amended motion was agreed.
