Fermoy experienced its wettest September in more than 10 years this year, according to figures obtained from Met Éireann. Nationally, the majority of monthly rainfall totals were above their Long-Term Average.
A total of 115.7mm of rainfall fell at Moorepark in Fermoy during September, the highest rainfall for this month based on data from the period 2007 to 2017.
September was also the wettest single month recorded in Fermoy since February 2016, when there was a recorded monthly rainfall of 153.1mm.
168.4mm of rain fell in January 2016, with an unprecedented 324.3mm of rainfall in December 2015.
The severe flooding witnessed at this time forced authorities to close the Thomas Kent Bridge on a number of occasions and erect the town’s flood barriers.
20.5mm of rainfall was recorded on Wednesday, September 27, the wettest day recorded last month.
Met Éireann figures show that the amount of rain that fell at Moorepark last month was 146% more than the average rainfall for the period between 1981 and 2010.
Nationally, the highest rainfall for September was recorded at Valentia Observatory in County Kerry, where 204.4mm of rain fell.
