Moving with the times, Fermoy Credit Union has undergone major changes behind the scenes with the introduction of a new technological infrastructure.

The new operating system replaces technology that had been installed there over 20 years ago and had ‘reached its shelf life date’, according to marketing officer, Pat Morrissey.

As well as leading to faster transactions, the new system will allow Fermoy Credit Union to offer its 12,000 members direct bank transfers, easy bill pay set-up, debit cards and a member access app for mobiles. Member’s security will be enhanced with member’s pictures now taken at the counter and added to their accounts, creating an easier identification process.

The branch was closed on Wednesday, February 4 and branch members have experienced delays in-store while the new system is rolled out and staff become accustomed to it.

“Such an undertaking is less akin to installing the latest iPhone update and more like restarting the business from scratch and getting almost 13,000 members' details into the right place on the new system,” said Mr Morrissey.

“It’s no easy task but thanks to our IT partners it went very smoothly and was up and running within the allocated time frame. Things run smoothly when they are well planned.”
