Fermoy Community Hospital: Works delayed and designs ‘under review’

Refurbishment design of the Cuisle Ward at Fermoy Community Hospital is ‘under review’ by the HSE South West Capital and Estates Team. The HSE has confirmed to The Avondhu that the ward has had infrastructural works carried out to meet the ‘assessed needs of the service’ which are now under review to complete the new service-approved layout.

Remedial upgrade works are also underway on the Dochas Ward, expected to finish in May this year, despite the extended ward being reopened to residents in late 2024. It is alleged that works undertaken in the hospital left rooms ‘too small’ to comply with HIQA standards, and require further works to achieve compliance. When The Avondhu queried the HSE regarding the small room sizes, it was outlined that if a HIQA report was unpublished, it could not comment on the matter.

Cllr Deirdre O’Brien has described the ongoing delays, and reasons for same, as ‘disappointing’, calling for accountability.
