Festive fever from took hold in Fermoy in the summer of 1987, when over an 8-week period, ‘Fanfare in the Park’ saw a varied programme of music and entertainment bringing lots of ‘hectic activity’ to the town each Sunday. The initiative was part of the Fermoy Region Enterprise Board’s ‘onslaught on tourism for the town’.
It was reported at the time that there was an ‘amazing amount of support from clubs, organisations, companies, pubs and many individuals, who have either loaned equipment or help put on events’.
The final Fanfare in the Park that year was held on Sunday, September 6th from 4pm till 7pm with a rock concert featuring Brian O’Reilly and Loudest Whisper, supported by another local group, Gypsy’s Kiss.
