A delegation from Kilmagner National School was received at the Fermoy Municipal District meeting on Monday where the group sought the support of the elected members and the executive, in seeking further safety and traffic calming on the dangerous stretch of road outside the school.
Situated on the N72, halfway between Tallow and Fermoy, the road is under the control of Transport Infrastructure Ireland, to whom the school have made representations seeking to slow traffic on the busy route in the interest of safety.
Having been raised several times at previous meetings, road safety and speed outside Kilmagner NS have long been a point of concern.
Speaking at Monday’s meeting, principal Trevor Grumbridge noted that he had previously been involved in a deputation some years ago on the issue which saw the installation of a periodic speed limit on the road outside the school, reducing speeds to 50kmph during drop-off and collection times.
