Farming With Nature app on trial

Castlelyons farmer Donal Sheehan - 'Until we put a value on all these things ... we haven’t a hope of moving forward'.

As the debate around climate action and agriculture featured on RTÉ’s Prime Time this week, one local who voiced their concerns was Castleyons’ based dairy farmer, Donal Sheehan.

Mr Sheehan is involved with the BRIDE Project, Farming With Nature, having run many projects in Castlelyons and surrounds, and spoke on the programme about the changes that can be made to improve biodiversity in a farming environment.

In August, Farming With Nature was awarded €111,000 in funding to create an online platform that supports biodiversity management on farms and using the BRIDE model, it aims to obtain accreditation for a standard that scores biodiversity on all Irish farms.

Speaking with The Avondhu, Donal noted that the new platform is now in the final stages of development, having been trialled in the field already.
