‘Compassion and discretion’ has been requested of farm inspectors from Cork County Council at this week’s Northern Divisional Committee meeting, as the impact on farmers was outlined by councillors, with the Bride Valley area being particularly effected.

Cllr William O’Leary outlined the experience of one farmer, aged 75, whose farm was inspected and deemed to not have enough storage capacity for stock. According to the councillor, the farmer in question has now sold his herd of 80 cows.

“After three generations he’s after throwing in the towel. It’s heartbreaking for him, but it’s heart-breaking to listen to as well,” Cllr O’Leary stated.
