Liscarroll Point-to-Points

By Redundant Punter

A scintillating performance by the Sean O’Brien (Kilworth) trained Johnnys Edge lit up Sunday’s Liscarroll point to point run under the auspices of the local Duhallow Hunt.

Partnered by Ciaran Fennessy the debutante progeny of Beneficial faced fourteen rivals in this 6yr old and upwards geldings maiden. Fennessy elected to make every post a winning one with the 11/10 shot (from 6/4) and when he drew on by 2 to 3l after the penultimate obstacle he looked set for a comfortable victory.

However Eoin O’Brien on board He’s Chancy (5/2-5) had other ideas and began to stay on again closing to within 1L or so at the last, the jolly got this all wrong with Fennessy doing well to keep the partnership intact, on the run in he’s Chancy poked his head in front for a stride or two, but when Fennessy got back on an even keel the jolly picked up well close home to get up to score  by 1/2L.

“Well that was mighty” commented successful trainer Sean O’Brien, “He’s a horse I think an awful lot of, with a super pedigree, he will improve a stone for that today, we gave 26k for him at the landrover sale, I think Mallow and the bumper may come too soon for him but that is the route we will take with him.”

This was O’Brien’s second winner in seven days having landed a similar contest in Ballyarthur.
