Gas Networks Ireland’s long-awaited €32 million Central Grid Injection facility outside Mitchelstown is expected to officially open on Friday, October 2nd.
The Mayor of the County of Cork, Councillor Bernard Moynihan, is scheduled to attend the opening at the facility in Corracunna and Gerryleagh, along the old Cork to Dublin road towards Kilbehenny. The event is due to mark the completion of a project whose expected commissioning date has been pushed back multiple times.
The facility was expected to become active back in 2024, before that target was moved to early 2025. When the first sod was turned by Tánaiste Micheál Martin in October 2024, the first phase was anticipated to enter operation towards the end of 2025.
