As the parish of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Tallow comes close to celebrating 200 years in 2026, they face a great challenge as the building requires major renovations to secure the integrity of the building, both internally and externally, along with some historic mosaics within.
Speaking with The Avondhu, Mairead Tobin explained how the costs are estimated to be about €1 million for the work, and beginning next week, a team of 40 people will begin door-to-door collections in an effort to raise a bulk of the required funding through public donations.
Ms Tobin said too that the committee who are undertaking the fundraising are also looking at ‘the possible future sale’ of a field which is within the church’s property, of about two and a half acres. However, this sale and any future events will be considered once it is clearer what can and is raised via members of the public. Fr McNamara will also be suspending the monthly maintenance collection for the duration of this fundraising effort.
